-The ONS’ preliminary estimate of Q3 GDP showed the economy grew by a huge 1.0%, ending the UK’s longest double-dip recession since the Second World War in sensational style. Year on year growth rose from -0.5% to flat. The results are significantly stronger than the 0.6% consensus estimates, and our own estimate of 0.5%. -The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates that the UK economy has contracted by 0.7% in the three months to June 2012. The estimate confirms that the UK is now in its third quarter of its double-dip recession, making it the longest double-dip recession since records began.
